To help make 4S Sydney a diverse and accessible meeting, we have arranged for an affordable accommodation option to be made available for concession rate registrants. We define “concession” as students, unwaged scholars, and scholars based in low-income countries.
About the venue:
Accommodation is hosted by The National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE), a not-for-profit social enterprise working to build capability and create opportunity with and for generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Accommodation is onsite at the NCIE building located at 166 -180 George St, Redfern. The building is a beautifully restored, heritage listed site centrally located and close to the Sydney CBD, Sydney Airport and within walking distance to the conference venue.
The venue has unique historic significance to the area and is located on the land of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Is this a hotel?
No, this is not a hotel. The NCIE is a group stay accommodation site, similar to a school camp. It is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is run by and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As such, it may not have the services you expect from a regular hotel or hostel. We ask delegates to bear this in mind when booking accommodation and to be respectful of NCIE staff who are generously hosting conference delegates.
- Can I make adjustments to the package?
No, the package cannot be adjusted. While we have had enquiries asking for more or fewer days, the package is non-negotiable. This is because the NCIE is a group stay camp and as such cannot manage individual bookings.
- Are there any further discounts or concessions?
The accommodation package is designed specifically for concession-rate delegates. We define concession as students, unwaged scholars, and scholars based in low-income countries. There is no further reduction on price.
- Can children, partners and family also stay?
Yes, however, all accompanying family members will also have to pay the full package cost, with no exceptions. As this is not a hotel, the venue may not have access to cots or high chairs etc. If you are considering this option for your family, a reminder that the rooms are dorm style rooms with between 4-6 bunk beds per room. Please understand that a clean and quiet space is a priority for many of the other delegates who will be staying.
- How do I secure a spot?
We have strictly limited numbers so to secure a spot please make a deposit of $80USD by April 30 using the online store. The full balance is due June 30. Alternatively, you may pay the full amount by placing both items in your shopping cart. Deposits are non-refundable.
- What happens after I make a deposit?
You will have secured a spot at the NCIE and we will be in touch with details regarding arrival and departure times, dietary requirements, and dorm preferences (e.g. mixed gender dorm, single-gender dorm, accessibility requirements etc).
